I have been wanting to enjoy my photography more so I have been trying to find ways to get more physical prints. I investigated using an online printing service but they can only really do 4×6 prints economically, and I already had access to a cheap 4×6 printer. So I started investigating printers and discovered that printer companies have finally discovered that cartridges are dumb. They are now building tank printers that are a lot more efficient. I wanted the Epson ET-8550 but it just was not available anywhere so I settled for the Canon Pixma G620.
With the printer in my possession it was time to make a place to mount these photos. So I purchased a lot of simple 8×10 picture frames and started trying to figure where to put them. I resolved to use a blank wall in my kitchen/dining area. After that then it was time to measure the wall and picture frames to plan out a layout.
I have been doing these frame layouts the hard way for years with just a hand level and a measuring tape. I finally broke down and got myself a laser level and masking tape.
Even with the best laid out plans I still make mistakes. In this case I messed up the distance between the mounting point on the back of the frame with the bottom of the frame, I was off by 17mms. Thankfully, only two of the frames needed adjustment and the frame still covered the unnecessary holes.
After there is was smooth sailing. I added the mounting hardware to all of the points I had marked, removed the masking tape, and then mounted all of the frames to the wall. Everything lined up nice and cleanly, it is a little closer to the ends of the wall then I imagined but I like how it breaks up the wall.
I have since then printed out three 8×10 prints and added them to this wall. I can’t wait to fill up this wall with more photography. I am also looking at 8×16 and 8×24 frames so I can also mount some panoramic photos.
Well done, I always try to eyeball it which require several attempts.
